Keyboard Material Replacement Key Tops Here are the key tops that have revolutionized the key recovering industry. Easily fitted to most keyboards - can be filed for finishing to exact size. Extra thickness makes it possible to cover all imperfections in old keys, and insures against unevenness so often apparent when thinner key covering material has been used. It will be possible for you to cover many sets of keys with little or no final shaping. Produced from acrylic plastic which is hard, scratch-resist and durable. They will not discolor with age. Uniform color guaranteed, minimum shaping required. Less expensive than ivorine. Each key is marked at the back end of the tail with its note name. .075" Thick - One Set of 52 Per Box. Removing Old Key Tops To remove old ivories, heat with an iron on medium setting for about a minute; then cut them loose with a sharpened 1" putty knife. It is helpful to insert a damp towel between the iron and the ivory, to keep from drying out the original glue and baking the ivories on even tighter. To remove old celluloid key tops, brush methelyne chloride around the edges. When the glue softens, pry the plastic up, and brush more solvent into the joint, until the whole piece comes off. Methylene chloride is available from plastic supply companies. Use it with caution, as it is toxic and highly flammable. Never use heat on celluloid or plastic keys.
